Clifton Truman Daniel


In a humorous talk based on historic fact, President Truman's oldest grandson will give you a look at the private side of Harry Truman. Clifton Truman Daniel is Director of Public Relations at Truman College in Chicago, a former newspaper reporter and editor, and author of Growing Up With My Grandfather: Memories of Harry S. Truman.

Autumn Container Gardening


Learn how to design container gardens with blooms and foliage to enjoy as the season cools. Landscape and garden designer Michelle Titterton will show examples of fall containers and discuss how to choose plants for the season.

Shakespeare, the Jews, and The Merchant of Venice


This topic will be discussed by Rabbi Herbert Bronstein, Rabbi Emeritus/Senior Scholar North Shore Congregation Israel and member of the faculty at Lake Forest College. Rabbi Bronstein is a well-known authority on the works of William Shakespeare and has lectured at the Stratford (Ontario) Shakespeare Festival and Chicago's Shakespeare Repertory Theater.

The Paula Schrero Memorial Lecture Series was established by donations to the Friends of the Library and the Schrero family to commemorate Paula Schrero, a member of the library staff.

Maureen Brady, a professional genealogist, will discuss the family history research process and how you can begin discovering your family's story. Topics will include the five research steps, home sources, record keeping, Internet resources and an overview of local research libraries and centers.

A panel discussion moderated by Bev Shurman Lavitt and Anita Gerber of The Family Service Center of Northbrook, Glenview, Wilmette, and Kenilworth will include school social workers Kathryn Botica of Meadowbrook School, Melissa Kauffman of Wood Oaks Junior High, and Pat Carlson, Director of Guidance and Counseling at Glenbrook North High School.

Kathleen Anne Fleming will present a series of writing workshops. She has led creative writing workshops at libraries, schools, and art centers throughout the Midwest and is the author of three mystery novels.

AARP Driver Safety


This two day eight-hour defensive driving course sponsored by AARP will help make you a better and safer driver. You may be eligible for a discount on the liability portion of your car insurance. Register at the Reader Services desk. Tuition: $10.00 per person, to be paid in advance of first session.
