Special Series - Israeli Cinema Today

Israeli film historian Dr. Yael Munk, Jewish Community Center of Chicago Artist in Residence, looks at the main themes in Israeli filmmaking today, presenting clips from feature and documentary films.

Tuesday, September 23, 7:00 p.m.

Soldiers Speak: The army portrayed on screen today reflects a changing political landscape that includes an anti-war perspective. Films include Kippur, Beaufort, and Waltz with Bashir.

Thursday, October 23, 7:00 p.m.

Share and Share Alike? A look at how Israelis have become disillusioned by radical economic changes that have influenced their reliance on their government. Films include Year Zero and Broken Wings.

Tuesday, November 18, 7:00 p.m.

Women - Not So Equal? In contrast to the established image of equality, these films offer a woman's perspective of the struggle to be accepted. Films include Crazy Mud, Three Mothers, and Close to Home.

Tuesday, December 16, 7:00 p.m.

Finding the Faith: Ushpizin and My Father, My Lord represent a new trend that has begun to appear in Israeli cinema - Judaism.


Wednesday Classic Film Series

Wednesdays at 1:00 and 7:30 pm in the Auditorium

Our Movie Club meets the first Wednesday of the month at 12:30 for refreshments, premiums, trivia, and more. Refreshments are provided by Starbucks on Cherry Lane, an Sunset Foods of Northbrook. All are welcome. Please join us!
