Ham Radio in the Collaboratory

In partnership with the NSRC, a working ham radio is situated in the Collaboratory, the library's makerspace on the 2nd floor. Availability and use of the radio are limited. Please read below before your visit:

Radio Availability

  • The radio and associated equipment is only available for use during the Collaboratory’s open hours:

    • Sunday & Monday: CLOSED

    • Tuesday-Thursday: 10am - 8pm; also closed 1:30 - 2:30pm the second Tuesday of the month, except for July & December

    • Friday: 10am - 5pm

    • Saturday: 10am - 4pm

  • Use is not allowed during programs held in the Collaboratory

  • If others are waiting to use the radio, your time may be limited to 15 minutes

  • Improper or reckless use of the equipment, or transmitting without a license, will result in the immediate loss of access to the equipment

 

Who Can Use the Radio

  • You must have an active license for amateur radio from the FCC in order to transmit over the radio. Staff will verify your license using the FCC’s license search site: https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/searchLicense.jsp

  • You must present a current, valid ID (state ID, drivers license, current utility bill or bank statement) with your correct name and address. The name and address must match your FCC license in order for you to use the equipment.

  • Voice and radio volume must be at normal or low levels; you may be required to use headphones to limit disruptions to others in the Collaboratory

  • If others are waiting to use the radio, your time may be limited to 15 minutes

  • Improper or reckless use of the equipment will result in the immediate loss of access to the equipment
