Access The New York Times Online From Home

To access The New York Times from home or wherever you are:  

  1. Click here and enter your Northbrook Library card number to access a 24-hour digital access code. (You can also use this access code in The New York Times apps.)
  2. Click “Redeem.” (Once your pass expires, you can return to renew it for another 24 hours.) 
  3. To activate your access, you will need to log in or register for a free NYTimes.com account with your email address.

Access The New York Times Online Inside the Library

If you're connected to our building's WiFi (NPL Public), you don't need a digital access code to access The New York Times online, but you will still need to register for a free NYTimes.com account or log into an existing account.

Will I get emails from the New York Times?

Yes. After you set up your account, you will receive promotional emails from nytimes.com, but you can unsubscribe to stop receiving them.

Once my 24-hour pass runs out, can I get another one?

Yes. You can return here and follow the same steps to generate another access code.

Can I gift articles to my friends?

Yes. Once you are logged in, if you read an article you'd like to send to a friend, you can share paywall-free access for up to 10 articles per month to an unlimited number of people, including non-subscribers. Look for the gift icon in the article tools list under the headline.

Can I view old issues of the Times?

Yes. The Times Machine (https://timesmachine.nytimes.com/browser) has replicas of all issues from 1851 to 2002. Patrons have unlimited browsing and may download 5 PDFs per day.

Can I read other digital newspapers and magazines with my library card?

Yes. Your Northbrook Library card lets you access periodicals from around the world.
