On Thursday, May 9 at 7:00pm, popular Chicago music podcast, Friskie Morris Sessions will record a special live episode in the library's Auditorium that features a performance by Chicago rock band Mutts.
During the podcast, host Stephen DeFalco will also be interviewing the band, a keys/bass/drums trio whose sound was described by Time Out Magazine as “like Tom Waits fronting a garage band.” Since 2009, the band has averaged more than 100 tour dates a year, and Mutts’ singer-songwriter Mike Maimone has toured as the keyboardist for Company of Thieves and Los Colognes on national tours opening for Blues Traveler, the Plain White T’s, OK Go, and the Hold Steady, among others.
“Music fans will enjoy hearing the musicians discuss the creative process and get a real behind-the-scenes look of a musician’s life,” Stephen said.
The concept behind Friskie Morris Sessions, which began in 2013, is to showcase punk and rock music talent from the Chicagoland area. The podcast recently reached 150 episodes, and have featured bands like Anti-Flag and Lucky Boys Confusion.
The idea to host a live podcast at the library came from Reference librarian Phil Collins, who happens to know Stephen DeFalco, the man behind Friskie Morris Sessions. “It’s going to be a really unique experience. It’s the first time they’re doing a live episode like this,” Phil said.
Stephen DeFalco, host of the Friskie Morris Sessions, embraced the opportunity to record the live podcast in the library’s Auditorium. “Any fan who’s interested in getting a behind-the-scenes look should definitely come out for it,” he said. “I’m really excited for it and I know the band is excited for it as well.”
