Northbrook Public Library card holders now get free, unlimited access to the New York Times website and mobile apps to enjoy NYT News, Cooking, Games, Wirecutter, and the Athletic content.

To access The New York Times from home (or wherever you are)

  1. Click here and enter your Northbrook Library card number to access a 24-hour digital access code. (You can also use this access code in The New York Times apps.)
  2. Click “Redeem.” (Once your pass expires, you can return to renew it for another 24 hours.)
  3. To activate your access, you will need to log in or register for a free NYTimes.com account with your email address.

If you're in the library and connected to our building's WiFi (NPL Public), you don't need a digital access code to access it. However, you will still need to register for a free NYTimes.com account or log into an existing account.

  1. Tap or click here to access when connected to the library's WiFi
  2. Log in or register for a free NYTimes.com account with your email address.

Gift an article to a friend

Once you are logged in, if you read an article you'd like to send to a friend, you can share paywall-free access for up to 10 articles per month to an unlimited number of people, including non-subscribers. Look for the gift icon in the article tools list under the headline.

Read old issues of the Times

If you'd like to read issues from 1851 to 2002, you can access the Times Machine for unlimited browsing. It also allows you to download up to five PDFs per day.
