Library Partners with Game On! Sports 4 Girls to Create New Reading Program

Power4MindsThe Northbrook Public Library is partnering with Game On! Sports 4 Girls to present a new month long reading program for girls: Game On! Power4Minds, which will run from March 1 to March 31.

The Game On! Power4Minds Reading Program is designed for girls in grades K-12. The goal of the program, said Youth Services Manager Kelly Durov, is to help young girls boost their confidence through books.

“[Game On! Sports 4 Girls] is a program in Glenview that’s committed to providing sports programs for young women with the thought that it helps them become more confident and have more self esteem,” said Durov. “With this reading program, they will be able to go beyond sports and focus on growing young women’s minds as well.”

Girls who sign up for the Power4Minds Reading Program will be able to browse the Library’s book lists for titles with strong female characters, or they can select books on their own. For each book read, participants will earn a prize: reading one book earns a T-shirt; reading two to three books earns a coupon for Game On! Sports 4 Girls; reading four to five books earns a gift card to a local business. Girls will also receive a free bag when they sign up for the program. Durov believes that the program, the first reading club of its kind at the Library, will be a great partnership.

“I think it’s such an important thing for young women to feel empowered,” said Durov. “I’m excited that we can do something to help teach young women that they can do anything they set their minds to.”

Power4Minds Reading Program runs from March 1-31. Visit the Library’s Youth Services Department to sign up.
